Why healthcare PPC experience transfers to law firm Google Ads

A healthcare practice and a law firm run the same kind of Google Ads account: expensive clicks, few leads a month, a phone call as the lead, the real result recorded in another system, sensitive details in every inquiry, and ad copy that a regulator can object to. The skills that keep a medical practice’s account profitable are the ones a law firm’s account needs.

Educational only, not legal advice. This page is about Google Ads management. Your state bar’s rules and your own counsel decide what your firm may do.

Is healthcare PPC experience relevant to a law firm?

Yes. Put a medical practice’s Google Ads account next to a law firm’s and the hard parts line up one for one.

Why do expensive clicks and few leads change how a campaign is managed?

With only a handful of leads a month, a quiet week is often bad luck, not a broken campaign. A manager used to small numbers checks whether zero leads is statistically surprising before changing anything, and sizes the budget so the campaign can produce enough leads to be judged.

Managers used to high-volume accounts tend to react to every dip, which resets Smart Bidding and wastes money in an account where each click costs as much as a dinner out. The PPC Troubleshooter runs the luck math for any campaign.

Why does a law firm need offline conversion tracking?

Because a lead isn’t a case. A clinic optimizes for booked patients, not form fills, by importing appointments into Google Ads as offline conversions. A law firm does the same with signed cases from its intake or case management system, so Smart Bidding learns which searches bring clients, not just calls.

Without it, Google treats a wrong-number call and a signed catastrophic injury case as the same conversion, and bids for more of whichever is cheaper.

How should a law firm handle sensitive details from Google Ads leads?

The same way a medical practice does: send Google Ads only what it needs to count a conversion, such as the click ID and a value, never the details someone typed into the intake form. HIPAA forces this habit on healthcare. Law firms aren’t covered by HIPAA, but an injury, an arrest or a divorce is just as sensitive.

The HIPAA conversion tracking guide compares the healthcare options. The free one, a click-ID-only offline conversion import, works the same way for a law firm.

Do state bar rules affect Google Ads copy?

Yes. Lawyer advertising has to follow the state’s rules of professional conduct, which are based on ABA Model Rule 7.1: no false or misleading claims about a lawyer’s services. Healthcare ads face similar limits. Ad copy should be approved by the firm before it runs, and promises of results or unverifiable superlatives should be left out.

Writing within those limits is a habit healthcare advertisers already have. Ads still have to say why to call this firm, without “best” or “guaranteed.”

What doesn’t carry over from healthcare to legal PPC?

Practice-area knowledge and the economics. A law firm’s clicks are often more expensive, the search results are crowded with lead-generation sites, a contingency fee can arrive months or years after the case is signed, and advertising rules differ by state. Those are learned per firm, from the firm’s own numbers and its own bar’s rules.

Why doesn’t this page show client results?

Because client results are confidential. We’ve lowered a healthcare practice’s cost per new patient by a meaningful margin, and we still won’t publish the practice’s name or its numbers. A law firm that guards its own clients’ confidences should want a marketer who guards theirs the same way.

Your cost per case, your caseload and your intake numbers would get the same treatment. We’re happy to walk through the method, the account structure and the tracking setup in a call, without naming anyone.
